BELLY DANCE WITH MELINA &
NAJMAT SATURDAY AFTERNOONS AT
CASANIA STUDIOS

Najmat &
Melina
On Saturday, January
14th
2006, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.,
Melina and Najmat kicked off
their 5-week specialized class series with a 2-hour introductory
workshop compared their two belly dance styles:
Greco-Turkish and Arabic. The workshop began with a brief demo
by each teacher designed to highlight the differences of their
styles. Students learned proper body alignment and posture for
each style and worked on step-hips, figure 8s, shimmies, shoulders,
hands & arm movements, zills and special rhythms respective to each
dance style. The mixed-level workshop was fun, informative and a
great work-out!

For the remaining 4 weeks of Saturday classes (January 21, 28th,
February 4th and
11th),
Najmat will focus on teaching the basics of Arabic-style belly dance
including shimmies, locks and layering, veil work appropriate for an
Arabic venue, intro to cane, and fast and slow combinations. (Najmat's
classes will take place from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.)
Melina’s classes (2:45 - 3:45 p.m.) will feature zill-work, floor
work, spins, Daughters of Rhea style veil-work, gypsy-style turns
and leaps, fast combinations with layering & intro to balancing of
objects on the head.
Najmat and Melina have designed the classes to complement one
another and encourage students to take both, though it is by no
means required.
